2022 Cadillac Escalade Vs. 2022 GMC Yukon: What Is The Better Luxurious SUV To Lease?

Tall, comfortable, and people’s movers’ family SUVs are one thing most shoppers can never have enough of. The US is renowned for being the best makers of luxurious, bold, and powerful large SUVs in the auto world. The Cadillac Escalade and the GMC Yukon are some of the most popular choices in this segment.

The 2022 Cadillac Escalade and the 2022 GMC Yukon offers luxury trims. Both American SUVs share the same platform. These two full-size SUVs have a lot in common, commanding the same presence. They both offer similar powertrains, power, pitiable fuel economy numbers, tech features, and convenience amenities. But besides that, how do these two GM cousins stack against the other? Is leasing the 2022 Escalade offering a more luxurious family-friendly full-size SUV than leasing the 2022 Yukon?

What’s New?

Nearly over two decades after it made its first debut, the Escalade continues to be the best offering any shopper can get in the 2022 Cadillac SUV lineup. With its many admirable features, including an undeniable presence, robust powertrain, and upscale cabin, the 2022 Escalade is still comfortable seated at the upper echelons of most desirable luxury large SUVs.

After it got a full redesign last year, which marked the beginning of its fifth generation, the Escalade moves into the 2022 model year with only minor changes and the same desirable traits that have kept it going for years. The Escalade gets more standard safety and driver-assist tech features, including a lane-keeping assist and lane-departure warning. Upper trim levels now afford the Cadillac’s Super Cruise driver assistance tech features as well as front and rear automated emergency braking as standard. Also, Cadillac adds the GM’s Buckle to Drive seat belt safety system to the new Escalade lineup, and to boost performance, Cadillac adds the trailer assist tech to the new Escalade’s Performance package. Finally, the Escalade gains new exterior paint colors— Mahogany Metallic, Galactic Gray Metallic, and Wilder Metallic.

On the other end, the 2022 GMC Yukon still retains its place as the largest SUV in the GMC lineup. This truck-based SUV has all it takes to effortlessly haul people and cargo simultaneously without being overwhelmed. Last year, GMC gave the Yukon a ground-up redesign to mark the fifth generation.

For 2022, still gets a tech upgrade, notwithstanding its recent restyling, more tech features, and new diesel powertrain that were all the highlights of its 2021 model year. The 2022 Yukon receives an upgraded infotainment system. It now sports a standard 12.0-inch digital gauge display and a new infotainment interface that boasts Google-based voice controls. GMC has also reintroduced the off-road-oriented AT4 model into the 2022 Yukon lineup. Elsewhere, the Yukon gets an independent rear suspension, and under the hood, a 6.2-liter V8 diesel powertrain is now available on the AT4 trim.

Powertrain And Transmission

The 2022 Escalade and the 2022 Yukon offer similar powertrain and transmission—a 6.2-liter V8 engine and a 10-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain also offers the same horses and torque in large SUVs—420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. However, what gets more interesting in these two GM’s large SUVs is their second powertrains. While the 2022 Escalade provides 277 horses, the Yukon delivers 355 hp (78 horses more than the Escalade). So, if you’re thrilled by power, leasing the 2022 GMC Yukon is the better alternative.

When properly equipped, both the 2022 Escalade and the 2022 Yukon can tow between 8,200 pounds to 8,400 pounds, respectively. Both engines use a smooth-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission that sends power through the rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel.

The 2022 Escalade offers two powertrain choices. The first is a 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 that pumps out 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. The second is a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six diesel engine that generates 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque.

The 2022 Yukon, on the other end, comes standard with a 5.3-liter V8 with 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. Elsewhere, the Yukon Denali models are powered by the familiar 6.2-liter V8 with 420 hp and 460 lb-ft. The 2022 Yukon powertrain option is a 3.0-liter turbodiesel I-6 that generates 277 hp and 460 lb-ft.

Handling And Performance

In a straight line, you can’t say that either the 2022 Escalade or the 2022 Yukon are quick SUVs. Besides, given their sizes, it’s not just in their system to deliver track firing acceleration. Nevertheless, these SUVs deliver ample power for city cruising and taking the whole family on a long trip through the freeway.

If you enjoy taking the whole family more often through the off-beaten path, you should consider leasing the 2022 GMC Yukon, particularly the off-road-oriented AT4 trim. But if you want a generally more comfortable and blissful ride, the Escalade does it better. But that does not mean you won’t be getting a well-cushioned ride or composed handling with the Yukon.

Fuel Economy

There’s nothing much to separate the 2022 Escalade and the 2022 Yukon. Perhaps, you can get more fuel-efficient when you lease a Yukon with the new turbo-diesel engine. While EPA estimated numbers for the 2022 Escalade with the base powertrain and RWD is 15/20 mpg city/highway and 17 mpg combined, switching to the 2022 Yukon gives you an EPA estimated numbers of 16 mpg city, 20 mpg highway, and 18 mpg combined.

Interior

Of course, you can always expect the 2022 Cadillac Escalade to deliver a posh and elegant cabin with premium materials and top-notch amenities. But we still have to give the Yukon credits for offering one of the most delightful and near luxurious interiors in the large SUV class.

For infotainment, the Yukon’s easy-to-use 10.2-inch touch screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is nothing to be compared with the new Escalade’s 16.9-inch touch screen with a swath of connectivity features.

Both SUVs offer comfortable and spacious three-rows of seats, accommodating eight people. Adult passengers can comfortably stay in the third row throughout the journey as both SUVs provide ample head and legroom space. The cargo hold is one of the best in the class.

Cost

Leasing the 2022 Cadillac Escalade offers a luxurious three-row family-friendly SUV for most shoppers. But if you want near the same niceties as the Escalade for less the price, there are many options for you, including leasing the 2022 GMC Yukon.
