For sure, many auto enthusiasts have been wondering what’s going on with the Chrysler. Since the merger of the PSA Group and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles to form the Stellantis, Chrysler has been so much quiet, even reducing its lineup to two, the Pacifica minivan and the 300 sedan. Luckily for the brand’s loyalists, it appears that Chrysler stars are far from fading away, as the American brand announced its plans to embrace electrification.
The first Chrysler EV concept, the Chrysler Airflow, was first announced at the 2020 CES. Two years later, after so much teasing and all, Chrysler seems ready to take the handsome-looking Chrysler Airflow Concept to production. This is all part of Chrysler’s bigger picture of going fully electric by 2028.
The Chrysler Airflow EV concept is a stunning crossover SUV that previews the next generation of Chrysler vehicles—all-electric vehicles. Chrysler hopes to bank on the success of other sister brands that have EVs to produce its first EV, which will be based on one of the four Stellantis platforms for EVs across the brand.
The Throwback Concept
“Form is temporary, class is permanent,” this couldn’t have been any truer than with the Chrysler. After what seemed to be a long hiatus, the American brand has gone deep into history to resurrect an old model, this time as an electric vehicle called the Airflow Concept.
The new Airflow concept that debuted at the CES 2022 not only wears the iconic name of a 1930s Chrysler model but borrows some ideas from the legendary Airflow and blends it with contemporary styling and design elements to give a classic electric vehicle. Although it’s still a concept, if it eventually makes it into production, this battery-electric concept car could be the first Chrysler EV and will set the ball rolling for future Chrysler electric vehicles. Although it is clear that this Stellantis division will be launching its first electric vehicle by 2025, Chrysler is yet to confirm if the Airflow concept will see production.
Back when the original Airflow debuted in the 1930s, it was a unique vehicle—one that is unarguably ahead of its time. The old Airflow was sleek and stylish and packed with a long list of smart equipment that improves passenger space and safety. Unfortunately, being ahead of its time seemed like a crime, a price the Airflow quietly paid.
What To Expect
The recent Airflow concept is not the same as the original Airflow of the 1930s, and we believe it’s a good thing. If the Airflow finally sees production, becoming the first Chrysler EV by 2025, we will be seeing a sleek and stylish electric SUV with slim headlights and fastback styling. It will be about functionality, screens, and sharp interior design on the inside.
Power comes to the Airflow concept from two electric motors and a larger battery pack that combines to give a total power output of 402 horsepower. Chrysler hopes this EV can get a driving range of up to 400 miles on a single charge and support fast-charging capability. We could also be seeing the Level 3 automated driving in this Chrysler. The battery pack located under the floor means more passenger and cargo space.
Chrysler will launch its first EV by 2025. If it turns out to be a production version of the Airflow concept, that would be great news for Chrysler lovers.
