Introducing The All-New 2023 BMW i7: Incisive Preview

Electrification is gradually taking over the auto industry, and no automaker wants to be left out. Not even a big brand like BMW. A few years after offering its first fully electric car, this German automaker is set to offer an all-electric flagship luxury sedan, the i7. While this could be in response to archrival, the Mercedes Benz all-new EQS, we will undoubtedly enjoy this upcoming iconic battle from the two big dogs in the industry.

Unlike the Mercedes EQS with its unique platform, the BMW’s flagship all-electric sedan will be based on the group’s latest electric architecture dubbed CLAR. Although it’s not a standalone EV, the upcoming i7 easily stands out when parked next to a regular 7 series. When this BMW electric sedan finally becomes available, leasing the 2023 BMW i7 will be a great alternative for any shopper in Miami looking to lease an electric sedan that offers much of the same traits as the Tesla Model S.

What We Know So Far

The 2023 i7 will debut as the flagship sedan model of the already increasing BMW EV portfolio. Images from spy shots suggest that this upcoming i7 will wear different looks from the plug-in hybrid variant. The i7 gets more design elements to make it a handsome electric sedan. Although BMW has largely kept mum about this flagship electric sedan, the upcoming i7 will most likely offer at least two electric motors and two battery packs—71 kWh and 105.2 kWh battery packs, if it must compete better against other high-end electric sedans, including the Mercedes EQS.

Variants

While BMW offers its flagship electric SUV, the iX, in two regular trims (xDrive40 & xDrive50) and a performance-oriented trim (M60), some reports suggest that the upcoming i7 will come in three trim levels—i740, i750, and M60 models, with the i740 serving as the entry-level model, the i750 with the longest range, and the beastly M60 for power-thirsty drivers.

Powertrain & Battery Technology

While it is very likely that the upcoming i7 will sport both 71 kWh and 105.2 kWh battery packs, also, given that the base model of the iX with 105.2 kWh battery pack and dual electric motors generates 516-horsepower and a 380-mile range per charge, the upcoming i7 with the same drivetrain configuration could generate the same horses and close to 400 miles range on a full charge, as it gets more aerodynamic design than the EV SUV.

There’s also a strong possibility that the i7 with a similar battery pack as the iX can also be charged with 200kW public fast-chargers.

BMW is already doing everything possible to ensure that the upcoming i7 is a true flagship luxury electric sedan that most fans expect it to be.
