An Early Welcome To The 2023 Porsche Macan EV: Detailed Preview

After testing the waters with the Taycan EV, which proved to be relatively a success, the German maker of luxurious fast cars, Porsche, decided to swing in fully into the electric vehicle market by adding an all-electric version of the Porsche Macan to its EV portfolio.

Of course, the Macan is already due for a fresh styling, but that’s not the only reason the upcoming Macan EV would be wearing fresh looks when it finally arrives. Rather, the changes in design are to improve the aerodynamics and energy efficiency of this Porsche first electric crossover SUV.

What To Expect

Although it’s clear that electrification is the way for most automakers, Porsche is one of the brands that some auto enthusiasts never expected to move in quite quickly into the trendy EV market.

When Porsche first announced its plan towards embracing electrification, the expectations were much. While the first Porsche EV, the Taycan, didn’t derail much from expectations, we could only imagine what Porsche has in stock with the electric version of the Macan.

On the outside, the all-new Macan EV will most likely look like the gas-powered Macan, but images from spy shots suggest that it will get a fresh makeover. The Macan EV will sport new front and rear designs to differentiate it from its gas-powered sib easily.

The electric Macan will be one of the first models to ride on the newly developed PPE platform, which Porsche now shares with Audi. Other future Volkswagen EVs will most likely be built on this same platform. The PPE platform is typically linked to cars with batteries under the floor and between both axles. The all-new 2023 Porsche Macan could be with a single or two electric motors, either a rear-wheel drive system or an all-wheel drive. And as you might have guessed, the battery lying under the floor means that the Macan could afford more passenger space and ample cargo hold. Porsche could equip the Macan EV with air suspension and rear-wheel steering for a smooth ride.

Battery Technology, Range & Charging

According to Porsche, the all-new Macan EV could get a longer range on a full charge than the Taycan with 227 miles of range.

Like the Taycan, the Macan could possibly come with two battery sizes. Judging from the Taycan and the Audi E-Tron models built on the same electric platform, the 2023 Macan EV will likely come with an 800-volt fast-charging capability.

It’s been over two years now since Porsche confirmed that the Macan would have an EV variant, but with recent spy shots and prototypes, it is clear that this electric luxury compact SUV will soon be available for leasing in Miami later this year as a 2023 model.
